A tea here, a tip there — the right food, but at the wrong time of year. My grandmother never made that mistake.
You sleep, you eat "right," and your energy still isn't there. Chinese medicine looks at the whole picture, not just one symptom.
Cold salads and iced drinks when the season asks for warm food. Every chapter tells you what the season asks of your digestion.
Big changes don't last. One recipe, one tea and one small habit for fifteen days — that is how the old calendar works.
Who I am
I called my grandmother Nai Nai. She never owned a calendar with twelve months: she lived by the twenty-four seasons, each about fifteen days long. She knew when to stop making cucumber salad and start simmering pears, and when to say: "Go to bed early — the year is going to sleep."
Years later I studied the Chinese tradition with teachers and books, and discovered that much of what I learned in the classroom I had already learned in her kitchen.
She never wrote her remedies down. This book is her kitchen, written down at last: simple recipes, warm teas and small habits, each at the right time of year.

No. It's an educational guide to the traditional wellbeing practices of Chinese medicine. It doesn't diagnose or treat any condition and it doesn't replace your doctor. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before trying any remedy.
Not at all. Everything is explained in plain English, step by step, with quantities and examples. It's written for complete beginners.
